Parchment Family Practice

Cardiovascular Disease

Parchment Family Practice, P.C. offers a variety of alternative treatments for cardiovascular disease. Intravenous chelation therapy using Disodium EDTA (Ethylene, Diaminoethanetetraacetic acid) is one of the treatment options available.

EDTA has been in use since the 1940's. It was observed in the late 1940's and early 1950's when it was being used as a metal chelator which had positive effects on atherosclerosis. Unfortunately, due to loss of patent protection and lack of financial incentives, studies were never done for FDA approval for atherosclerosis.

Currently a National Institute for Health study called TACT (Trial to Assess Chelation Therapy), is examining whether EDTA chelation is helpful for patients that have had a heart attack. This study is in its fifth year. Parchment Family Practice, P.C., is a participant in this study.

How EDTA is performed

The EDTA is administered intravenously with various vitamins and minerals based on each individual's requirement. It is performed through a slow intravenous drip that takes 1.5 hours to complete. The patient relaxes in a comfortable lounge chair during this time.

Chelation therapy is very safe and can be used in addition to most other traditional cardiovascular therapies.
